The Holy War

John Bunyah, who had written Pilgrim’s Progress in 1678, penned another allegory in 1682, The Holy War, which told the story of the residents of Mansoul (man’s soul), a town which had been under the perfect rule of El Shaddai, but was persuaded by Diabolus to reject his rule. As Diabolus was successful in this evil venture, it appeared as if Mansoul was destined to remain under the control of Diabolus.

However, El Shaddai’s had a plan long in place before the fall of Mansoul…

He shares with the faithful that he was not taken unawares:

“Let all men know who are concerned, that the Son of Shaddai, the great King, is engaged by covenant to his Father to bring his Mansoul to him again; yea, and to put Mansoul, too, through the power of his matchless love, into a far better and more happy condition than it was in before it was taken by Diabolus.”

Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place[a] of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” – Rev: 21:1-4

A beautiful allegory that points to the victory that is ours through Jesus Christ and his death on the cross.
