“The Most Terrifying Truth in Scripture”

Paul Washer tells of a time when he was speaking at a secular university. He noted that Fear thisthere likely were some “lying in wait” to trap him in his words. Prayerfully considering how to begin his talk, he told his audience, “I want to share the most terrifying truth in Scripture with you right now. Some of you may want to leave before I do this. Are you ready? Here it is: God is good.

He was met with deadly silence from his listeners. Finally, one individual stood up and asked, “What’s so terrifying about this?!”

Washer’s answer was immediate: “You’re not. And what’s a good God going to do with someone like you?!”

We fail to understand just how HOLY the HOLINESS of God is! We read of Him in Hab. 1:13 “Your eyes are too pure to approve evil, and You cannot look on wickedness with favor. In addition, “For You are not a God who takes pleasure in wickedness; no evil dwells with You” (Ps. 5:4), and The face of the LORD is against evildoers, to cut off the memory of them from the earth” (Ps. 34:16).

Washer’s question is a critical one, as is the life-changing answer from God’s Word: “For our sake He made Him to be sin Who did not know sin, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. – 2 Cor. 5:21

I am grateful that we are in the hands of a merciful God and not one that did not plan GRACE into His creation.
