If you look at the URL for “In His Grip,” you will see this cryptic phrase – CHARITISESOMENOI.
For the curious among my readers, here is the explanation behind this: a transliteration of two Greek words taken directly from Eph. 2:8:
“For by GRACE (CHARIS – χάρις ) you have been saved ( SESOMENOI – Perfect Passive of SOZO – σώζω ) through faith…not of yourselves, the gift of God.”
Now for a short grammatical primer (seldom used in these days of emoticons and tweets): the Perfect Tense means that you have been saved (at a point of time in the past – Eph. 1:4) and you remain saved (Jn. 6:37). The Passive Voice means that God chose you, you did not choose Him (Titus 3:5).
So, CHARITISESOMENOI speaks powerfully of the core truth of our salvation:
“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast.” – Eph. 2:8,9
